Edward Timberlake Obituary

Edward Wrenne Timberlake, Jr. 12/6/1925 - 4/21/2014 passed away peacefully at age 88. He had been well known in press and military circles, retiring in 1993 as Chief of Public Affairs for the U.S. Army's Information Systems Command, headquartered at Ft. Huachuca, AZ. Born in West Point, N.Y., he cherished the military tradition of his family which included three general officers in WWII. He served in the Army's Second Division campaigns in Europe. Upon discharge, he attended the Univ. of Colorado, receiving a BA (Journ). He later earned his MA in communications from American U. of Wash., D.C. His career focused on newspapering and public relations, leading to his appointment in 1964 as Public Affairs director for the Army's worldwide Strategic Communications Command, the only civilian to serve in that post for a major military command. He received many professional awards including the Public Relations Society of America's prestigious Silver Anvil, a designation as one of the first Army Public Affairs Hall of Fame members and multiple Tucson Press Club Orchid awards. He also was awarded a Bronze Star. His memberships included PRSA, Sigma Delta Chi, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Colorado U's Sports Legends Club and St. Michael and All Angels Church where he was a vestryman and lay reader. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 62 years, Audrey Spannaus Timberlake; son, Scott Wrenne (Jean) Timberlake; daughter, Teresa Anne (Don) Connelly; grandsons, Ford Scott Timberlake and Cameron Chase Connelly; half-sister, Alice Lehmann and sister-in-law, Dr. Lois Timberlake; nephews include: Pierce , Jr., Patrick, Rodney, Beau, TedSan , Jr. and niece, Sally. He was predeceased by his father, Brig. Gen. E.W. Timberlake; mother, Mary Ala Pierce; brothers, Pierce, TedSan and half-brother, A.K. Ouerbacker; nephews, Stuart and Terry Timberlake. A Funeral Mass was held. His spirit lived on in our hearts. Arrangements by HUDGEL'S SWAN FUNERAL HOME.
