Freda Shenkarow Obituary

Freda R. Shenkarow Born October 16, 1917, died on Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 2006 at Tucson Medical Center Hospice. Freda came to Tucson from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in 1942 with her husband, Louis. She was predeceased by Louis Shenkarow (1963); son, Maxwell Shenkarow (1987) and daughter, Bonnie Polis (1996). Freda is survived by her brother, Bert Newman (Claire) of Winnipeg, Manitoba; sister, Marion Meyer of Las Vegas; daughters, Ellen Shenkarow (Mark Raven) and Nancy Bonsall (Bill); son, Richard Shenkarow (Julie); daughter-in-law, Rosalie Shenkarow; son-in-law, Jerry Polis (Beth); grandchildren, Justin Shenkarow, Kevin Polis (Cindi), Lindsay Zimmermann (Ralf), Maria Raven (Andrew Dreskin), Lucy Raven, Teddy Raven, Sam Bonsall, Zachary Bonsall, Melissa Bonsall, Matthew Shenkarow and Harrison Shenkarow, and great-grandsons, Benjamin Polis and Maxwell Dreskin. Freda is also survived by numerous beloved nieces and nephews. There will be a private memorial service. Contributions in her memory can be made to either Tucson Medical Center Hospice, 5301 E. Grant Road, Tucson, AZ, 85712 or the Educational Enrichment Foundation, 3802 E. 3rd St., Tucson, AZ 85716.

Freda, beloved mother of Bonnie -- both shining lights in my life and in the lives of my family. Freda, the supreme mother -- caring, strong, and acting as a model to which we all aspired. All of my family send their love and sincere sympathy to the extended Shenkarow family. The cycle of life continues, but there will never be another Freda. We are all thinking of you.

I will always remember Freda as a strong, loving, generous woman who welcomed my own family into her home and her life as if we were her own flesh and blood. My family spent many Thanksgivings with the Shenkarow clan and I will forever think of her on that holiday in particular. She will be sorely missed, but her memory and legacy certainly live on in her wonderful family - and in all of us who knew and loved her.

With sincerest condolences to all the family of Freda Shenkarow. She was a remarkable woman whom I admired very much. She leaves a legacy of a loving family and touched the lives of many of their friends. Thanksgiving was an important holiday to Freda and it will now continue as a loving reminder of her.
