Frederick JOHNS Obituary

JOHNS, Frederick 66, of Punta Gorda, Florida passed away December 25, 2017, after a short bout with cancer. He was born on December 8, 1951 in Pottstown, PA to Joseph and Mary Johns. Fred grew up in Pottstownm where he still has many friends, his zest for life and curiosity about the world sustained him through a wildly adventurous life. He started a life of adventure by working the factories and foundries of PA, then made his way to the Florida Keys working as a commercial fisherman. Eventually he wound up in Wyoming working the oil rigs, then off to the territory of Greenland working the DEW line. He spent 30+ years in Tucson, AZ where he and his wife, Maureen founded Desert Starr Steel, a steel erection company. He travelled to Singapore, Viet Nam, Thailand, Cambodia and Bali, as well a Amsterdam, Italy and France. Finally, his long adventure brought him and Maureen to Punta Gorda, Florida to retire. In the final months of his life, he and his family were fortunate to be able to spend time doing what he loved most: deep sea fishing, shooting guns, playing pinball, shooting pool, enjoying the beach, watching the Philadelphia Eagles and most importantly, enjoying a beer or two as he barbeques delicious meals for friends and family. Fred was an incredible husband, father, and brother. He kept a positive outlook through thick and thin and inspiring others to do the same. His warmth, his wit and his love will be missed greatly by his family and friends. Fred is survived by his wife, Maureen; daughter, Summer Starr Johns of Jacksonville, FL; son, Frederick Johns of Singapore; his brothers, William J. Johns (Mae) of Gilbertsville, PA, Harold Johns, of Carlisle, PA, Thomas Johns of Reading, PA; his sister, Patricia Johns Dunning (Louis) of North Ft Myers, FL. Plans for a Celebration of Life have not been finalized. Please make any donations to Casa de los Ninos.

It has been 6 years but still feels like just a few weeks ago we were chatting about pool, fishing, and rock n roll over a few beers in the backyard. Dearly missed, but we're doing well knowing that you're looking down on us each day.

Enjoying the Heat of Florida!

Fantastic person. Loved by all. Remembered by everybody for the great fun he brought to any situation. If you were with him, you were in for a great time. Grateful for the incredible time we got to spend this year (2017) in both Florida, Singapore, & Vietnam. We had a blast - I have never laughed as much as i did in 2017! Ill be looking forward to getting those lottery numbers from him like he told me he was gonna do.

Love Always & Forever

Rest in peace, my friend. Fred and Tom were members of the Wall Boys Club where I got to know them. A somewhat wild and outgoing pair, they were what the Wall Boys were all about. Thankfully I was able to see Fred while he was in Pottstown shortly before he returned to Florida. I will never forget Fredbo as long as I'm on this planet.

I grew up across the street from the Johns family. They had a large family like us, the Shaners. I am Betsy and was more of a friend with Patty as we were closer in age. My sincere sympathy to Fred's wife and family.
