Gary Christner Obituary

Gary Lee Christner age 70, of Tucson, AZ passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at Tucson Medical Center. Gary was born in Pigeon, MI, September 8, 1940, to Oarie and Ruth (Rook) Christner. He graduated in 1958 from Pigeon High School and joined the Army Reserve in 1962. He worked hard to send money home to take care of his family, farm, mother and siblings. He graduated from Northeastern School of Commerce and began his practice as a Certified Public Accountant. He married Janet Chappel from Bad Axe, MI on September 10, 1966. Together, they raised their children in Cass City, MI, where he was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church. In 1983, he moved to Tucson with his family and opened up his own CPA practice where he enjoyed meeting new people and solving problems. Gary was loyal to his family and friends and could always be counted on for a kind word or a helping hand. He loved to complete home improvement projects, play golf and talk with friends in the Seachers class at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother and friend that will be dearly missed by all. Although our hearts are aching right now, we know that he is with Jesus, and we will see him again someday in Heaven. Gary is survived by his wife, Janet; children, Jill (Tim) Quillman of Gilbert, AZ and Dustin (Marcy) Christner of Phoenix, AZ; four grandchildren, Drew and Nicholas Christner and Taylor and Brendan Quillman; and his sister, Joyce (Richard) Deering of Sandusky, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oarie and Ruth (Rook) Christner; his brothers, Dennis (Elizabeth) Christner and Harlan Christner and his sister, Shirley (Bill) McGee. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Tucson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 8051 E. Broadway Blvd., Tucson, AZ 85710. www.stpaulsumctucson.org. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL.

What a fantastic neighbor he was
And always ready to help with taxes
He would spend so much time helping my mother when she visited me
You and your sweet wife and children are missed in this neighborhood

It is with deepest sympathy that I write this. Gary was a good man, a good friend, my tax preparer, and my former brother-in-law. I remember when he first came to Tucson and stayed with us. He tried very hard to be helpful. It is hard to believe he joins 3 of his 4 siblings, all too young, but all in a better place. God is watching over them and enjoying their humor. God bless his family.

Patty and I want to express our deepest sympathies about Gary's passing. We had nice dinner with Gary a few years back and discussed a lot of great memories. He will be missed. It is so sad that so many of the Christners have passed so soon. I read once that what the caterpillar considers the end of life, God calls a butterfly.

I had the honor to work for Gary for several years. He taught me so much about business and also many life lessons. I would not be the person I am today without Gary's infuence. Janet, Dustin & Jill my love and prayers are with you as well as your families. Gary will always have a very special place in my heart.

Aunt Janet, Dusty, and Jill- Uncle Gary was always a jokester. It was especially fun if Uncle Dennis, Uncle Harley, your dad, my dad, and Uncle Bill would all be together at family gatherings. I always liked coming to your house in Cass City. Uncle Gary would take all five of us out for a snowmobile ride one by one. I bet he was a really good grandpa because he was so much fun! God Bless you all and keep in touch. Dan and Phyllis(Deering) Baranski and family

Janet, Dustin, Jill and families, I remember going to Rotary Club at noon in Cass City with Gary and playing euchere!
When it was tax season, you all were regular diners at my restaurant. Brother Roger remembers double dating in a hot convertible. I am sure Gary will be fixing something in Heaven! He is in a better place. God Bless You All!

Janet, Jill, Dusty
I am so sorry to hear of Gary's passing. He was a wonderful neighbor, and friend for many of us and espcially to my mother. I will never forget how she conned him into taking her shopping one hot summer day.
