I'm sorry to hear of Professor Koppel's passing. Many years ago when I first became interested in Jane Austen, I took his Austen course. As a result I was infected with his passion for her works.

BJ--Many, many years have passed but some memories remain alive...I remember so well Gene's devotion to you and on many occasions thought to myself, "how wonderful is that?" when he'd stop by the office to attend to family and your needs...Sincerest Sympathy, Debbie [Warren] Edwards

I will miss Dr. Koppel a great deal. It was because of him that I wanted to become an academic advisor. I remember him as an advisor, a professor, and as a friend. He was an integral part of my undergraduate years at U of A. I would always stop in and talk with him, and he always had time for me. Deepest condolences to his family.

I will always remember Gene for his brilliance and keen sense of awareness of everything and everyone. He forgot nothing! But mostly I will remember him for his gentle kindness, his love for family and his compassion for animals. I will miss seeing him walking the dog and just knowing he is here to share advice and wisdom. His life and friendship was truly a gift. It was a joy and privilege for me to have known him. My sincerest condolences to Betty, Ralph, Pam and all the family.

I remember Dr. Koppel also a one of my favorite professors at the UA. He was also a kind and helpful advisor during my years at the UA. His obvious love of his subject made his classes memorable. I still think of Dr. Koppel when I read Jane Austen. My sincerest sympathy and prayers to his family.

One of my favorite professors at the UofA. I fondly remember his lectures and how he could always bring it back to Jane Austen or Anne Tyler. :-)

Betty Jane, I was so sad to read about Gene. It has been many years since I worked with you at PAIC, but I fondly remember Gene and his visits to the office. We could tell how much he adored and loved you. Hoping that wonderful memories help you get through this difficult time.

For many years Gene was a member of the Oasis sing-along groups. He amazed us with his extensive knowledge of the history of songs, and he'd often entertain us with parodies which we'd never heard before. We missed him a lot when he became too ill to continue, and, to this day, when a question is raised about a certain song, someone will always say, "We need Gene here to tell us the answer." My heart goes out to his much loved Betty. Lee Schnebly
