Guy Forrest FERRO obituary

Guy FERRO Obituary

FERRO, Guy Forrest a third generation Tucsonan, died peacefully at home of Parkinson's disease on Monday, August 14, 2017. He would have celebrated his 77th birthday on September 12, 2017. Guy attended Tucson High and the University of Arizona, where he obtained a Masters Degree in urban planning. He was a member of the Delta Chi fraternity and a lifelong Wildcat. He worked for the City of Tucson, the University of Arizona, and TUSD. Guy loved to travel with his wife, Anne. His favorite trip was a barge cruise from Bordeaux to Toulouse, where he became a connoisseur of fine wines. A runner up was his Russian River Cruise, where he tasted every vodka that the country produced, and hence developed an affinity for Starka vodka Guy was known for his intelligence, rapier wit, and love of history. He was a great host, and could be found reciting poetry and making outrageous jokes at the dinner table. Above all, Guy enjoyed hanging out with his friends and never missed a Wednesday night poker game at Tucson Country Club (TCC), where he was a member for over 55 years. Guy could be found on the TCC tennis courts every weekend and was nationally ranked; he even played tennis two weeks before he died. He spent the last seven summers in La Jolla, CA, enjoying his beautiful home and time with his children, grandchildren and friends. Guy is survived by his wife of 54 years, Anne Thompson Ferro; his children, Dianne Ferro (Tim Mesarch) of Washington, DC, Lisa Ferro of Leesburg, VA, and Greg Ferro (John Heikel) of Arlington, VA; and grandchildren, Faith and Haley McCormick of Leesburg, VA. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 8, 2017, at 4:30 p.m. at St Michael & All Angels Church, 602 N. Wilmot Road, Tucson, AZ. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St Michael & All Angels Church.

Anne,
I had the pleasure of working with Guy during his years with TUSD. Guy represented TUSD on a commercial lease that we had with the school district. He was always fair and represented the district well. We had many enjoyable conversations over the years. Please accept our family's expression of sympathy. My deepest condolence to Guys Wife and Family. Guy and I were raised since babies on Alameda St. We were born on the same day just hours apart, him at St. Marys I at The Storks Nest. He was just like another brother to me, always there protecting us girls from being teased by the other boys. Guy was so kind funny and totally very intelligent. Guy would tell people that we were twins just to see their reaction, he thought that was so funny. So many loving and fond memories of our great time of growing up together from babies to Menlo Park Roskruge to THS. Remembering you on our birthday brother. Rita French Bowman Tucson
