Hubert Wuesthoff Obituary

Hubert E. Wuesthoff, USAF Col. Retired, MD, died at 6:50 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Heritage Manor, Normal. Hub, as he was preferred to be known, was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 10, 1921. Hub received his medical degree from the University of Southern California and entered the US Air Force as a flight surgeon and psychiatrist. Hub retired from active duty after 21 years of service as a full colonel, ending a profession that took him around the world several times. Dr. Wuesthoff continued to practice psychiatry in Tucson, Arizona in private practice where he retired after another 21 years. In 1947 Hub married Ellenora Ruth Bowyer and they had two daughters. They divorced in 1987. Hub married Diane Christensen Huhn in 1989. Having lived a full and well-traveled life, Hub found meaning in the life and love he shared with Diane and the pleasure he derived from inclusion in her family. In 2001 Hub and Diane moved to Bloomington to be closer to family. Hub is survived by his wife, Diane and her three children, Alice (Wm. DeLong) Huhn of Bloomington, IL; Andrew (Carla Murillo) Huhn of Bloomington, IL; Stephen (Gail Boltz) Huhn of Menlo Park, CA and by his two daughters, Ellenora Lee O'Connell and Merle Ann Sergheyev both of Tucson, AZ. Hub is also survived by grandchildren, Kenyon, Cameron, Jesi, Keldin, Christian, Meredith, Payton and Ayla; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Hub will be missed by his family and friends. He was an ardent lover of life, seeking knowledge and understanding where it could be found. He was a passionate reader, collecting a large library in which he swore he read 80% of them. He enjoyed fine food, fine spirits and intelligent conversation. One of his many charities was Doctors Without Borders, 333 Seventh Avenue, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10001. Hub will be buried with full military honors at Fort Huachuca, Arizona on Monday, May 9, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Those attending will need to meet at Fort Huachuca's main gate by 12:15 p.m. for MP escort to Fort cemetery. A requiem Mass will be held Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Matthews Episcopal Church Bloomington, II with The Reverend David Holt officiating. CARMODY-FLYNN WILLIAMSBURG FUNERAL HOME, Bloomington, is in charge of arrangements. The family would like to express appreciation to the staff of Heritage Manor Normal, II for the loving care they provided.
