Jack Staten Obituary

Jack Wayne Staten 2/23/1936 - 4/3/2011 Beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away April 3, 2011 in his hometown of Tucson, Arizona. Born on February 23, 1936 to Arlie Ellis and Margarite Geneva Staten in Wagner, OK. Jack moved to Arizona with his family when he was 17 years old and attended Marana High School. Jack was a Chemist at Asarco, Duval Corporation (and its' successors), and Burr-Brown, Inc. and was involved with the Tucson Section of the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers (AIME-SME), eventually serving as President. He was also a dedicated volunteer for Junior Achievement of Arizona, a Little League coach, a registered NRA Firearms Instructor, and a certified Waste Water Plant Operator. For many years Jack loved camping with his family along with hunting, fishing, and playing softball with friends. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Jon Stilwell; his son and daughter-in-law, David and Angela Staten, and his four grandchildren, Tina and Tyler Staten, and Mason and Eric Stilwell, and great-grandchild, Olivia Clayton. He is also survived by his sisters, Lavonne Harle, Bonnie Lou Stotler, and Judy Manning, and his brothers, Arlie Ellis "Bud" Staten and Mickey Staten, and his adoptive brother, Larry Dykers and his two aunts, Cara Morrison and Rowenna Mitchell. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Barney Staten and sister, Betty Jean Himebrook. There will be a service on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at DESERT SUNSET FUNERAL HOME for friends and family. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the American Indian College Fund.
