James Jondrow Obituary

James Wilmoth Jondrow 87, passed away in Raleigh, NC, on May 12, 2009. Jim had a wonderful and interesting life. He was born in Spokane, WA and grew up in Berkeley, CA. He graduated from the University of California - Berkeley with a degree in electrical engineering and served as an Air Force Captain. After graduating from San Francisco Theological Seminary, Jim went on to earn a PhD in New Testament Theology at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. Jim served as pastor-director of the University Presbyterian Church in Madison WI for 15 years, then became an administrator of Environmental Research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Jim and Marj lived in Tucson for 14 years and attended St. Marks Presbyterian Church. Among Jim's broad interests were languages, photography, inland-lake sailing and astronomy. He completed two novels in the last decade of his life. Jim had a life-long commitment to human rights, equality and peace. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marjean Pettis Jondrow; four children, Mary Jondrow (Jim Ostrem), James M. Jondrow (Luz Elaina Vasquez Jondrow), Janet Weiss (Robert Weiss), Jean Gendreau (Kim McClusky) and eight grandchildren, Matthew Jondrow (Catherine Jondrow) and Jessica Jondrow, Jennifer Weiss, Saima Akhtar (Brian Behnke), Michaela Cerrina, Magdelena Cerrina, Jacqueline Ostrem and Jonathan Ostrem. Memorials may be given to: Sun in My Heart Vietnamese Children's Fund, c/o Kim McClusky, 13431 Bear Paw Trail, Ely MN 55731. Gifts go entirely into projects for the children.
