Jerry Hall Obituary

Jerry Arthur Hall age 65, departed this life October 19, 2010. Jerry is survived by his wife and best friend, Christine; his loving family, which includes his children, Shayne (Tracy), Gina, Teresa and stepdaughter, Julia (Patrick); grandchildren, Cody and Tasha; great-grandchild, Aylin. He will be greatly missed by his grandsons, Jack and Jonathan. Jerry's sisters, Cozette (Richard) and Rochelle (Hamp) and brother, Tim (Deb) have yet another void in their lives with the loss of Jerry. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Lucille. Jerry was born in Provo, Utah where he worked in the mines prior to relocating to Tucson, AZ. He continued working in the mines in Tucson while developing his visionary art work. He changed professions and started his own landscaping business while continuing to further develop his art work. His pieces began with recycled items he found in junk yards, the mines, items donated by friends and neighbors. His pieces grew into life size metal statues and sculptures. His love for metal grew into using chrome bumpers as part of his work resulting in many large statues and sculptures which found their home in his front yard. Since his pieces are large and unable to fit inside his home he decided to use marbles inside and created numerous murals combining marbles and painted murals which grace the interior walls of his home. Metal had to have a place inside his home so he made several life size figures which grace the walls of his Jungle Great Room. In the past year he decided to add clay to his medium and began making small clay whimsical figures. His motto and driving force for all his art work was "I just want to make people happy and make them smile when they look at my artwork." Jerry's home and art work has been filmed several times and shown in America and Europe along with numerous articles written throughout the years. His latest pieces include Mr. and Mrs. Chemo which he made in the spring while fighting his battle with cancer. "Dearest Jerry, you have been my best friend, partner and husband and we have so many happy memories and times we have shared together. Know that I will love you forever and always. Chris." A special thank you to Carondolet Hospice for their care and support in the last days of Jerry's life on earth. In lieu of services and flowers, donations can be made to the Arizona Cancer Center in Jerry Hall's name. Arrangements by DESERT ROSE CREMATION AND BURIAL.

We rented the house at 1402 from Jerry in 1984/85. Having recently moved to Tucson for grad school we were driving around looking for houses and said, "Hey, look at that house! Look at that For Rent sign!" It was great, and Jerry was a really good landlord. He and his house were one important element of a very special time in our lives.

Your art is amazing. A friend of yours introduced me to your wonderful sculptures a long time ago. Those giants you created will live forever. Your works of art as still as they are, always look like they are alive.

Jerry Hall had a vision, a passion for seeing the world in a different way that fill our lives with a sense of wonder every day. It started more than 25 years ago when we drove by the house off of Mountain and asked the renter who the artist was. The first piece we purchased was a couple on a teeter-totter all made of spoons and forks and it sits on our fireplace mantle. An owl made from a water heater greets visitors from our chimney top, a couple riding a muffler horse amble about the back yard, and a life-sized commissioned piece captures the essence of our beloved Komondor dog. The trains, the pirate ship with the pirates' little dog painted in black and white spots -- magic all –- inoculate us with his joy every day. For years no significant milestone in our family went without turning to Jerry for a sculpture depicting his view of how this event might be commemorated. Jerry lives on in our hearts, and what he taught us about life lives on in our minds. Thank you for sharing this wonderful, remarkable and inspired man.

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.-- Headstone in Ireland

Chris, my deepest sympathies to you and the family. I'm so privileged to have been able to see Jerry's artwork throughout the house and yard...it is inspirational to have known someone that thinks and creates outside the box.
