Jim it was an honor to know you, and a real pleasure to ride in the 24 hour race with you. Your passion and commitment to the team was quite impressive. We could not have done it without you.
I think you taught us all something unique and special, you will always be remembered as a class act.
I will look back on our time together with great fondness, and speak of you well and often.
Last heard you were tearing up a celestial and endless section of single track pointed straight to the heavens and beyond! May she never end!

Jim and his family live in my neighborhood. He decorated their home at Christmas with lights wrapped around the columns in front of their door to form a tree. At the top Jim placed a large star. Jim was a star of our neighborhood, and we all feel a heavy sadness without him.
Jim also loved cheesecake. After he was ill, Denise, Ryan and Jim came to my house for dinner. Denise helped him feed himself because Jim's arms were weak. For dessert, I naturally served cheesecake. We were busy talking and failed to notice that somehow Jim was able to clean his dessert plate without any assistance. We all had a wonderful laugh, especially my good buddy and friend Jim.

We will always remember Jim for his friendly greeting as we passed your house when we went out for a walk. We often saw him out front with his bicycle ready to go for a ride or fixing something on it. May those good memories stay with everyone who knew him.

My thoughts are with you as you deal with your loss. May the memories of the hard days of sickness soon fade and the good memories help you in your sorrow of loosing a wonderful and brave person. Jim was a great colleague and I'm happy that I have met him in person on a few occasions.

Jim was so kind to me when I showed up at IBM in 1998. I was full of excitement and fear at being at *IBM*. I could tell right away that this man had knowledge way beyond what I did but he was so accepting and patient. He was a fine man.

Sadly, I never had the privilege of meeting Jim. But I feel as if I'd come to know him through all I'd heard and read about from his coworkers, and from Jim himself. As a result, I registered to participate in the ALS run next Sunday. Then I received the shocking news on Tuesday.
Jim's own words keep playing through my mind. "I am very humbled, and actually quite overwhelmed by all the support I have received and wish I could offer more than just my sincere gratitude. It is truly the most valuable gift I have ever received." Wow. What a role model Jim is. Even when struggling with the challenges of ALS, he speaks of his gratitude. Jim's legend will live on in the minds of many.
My heart and prayers go out to Jim's family and countless friends. I pray for your strength during these challenging times, and that you are able to find comfort in the knowledge that Jim is now in a better place. And even though he has moved on, his legend lives on to inspire us, as we work together to help find a cure for this dreadful disease.

I was so saddened to hear of Jim's passing. He faced ALS with amazing courage and grace. I have thought of him and the whole family often since I left Tuscon, and feel honored to have known him, if only for a short while.
Please know that Jim will continue to inspire me. I have great memories of cheering on him and Eric at El Tour!
Sending lots of warmth and comfort to the entire Riehl family.
Love,

Hey Jimbo - Love you bud. Hope you enjoyed riding with Denise and I the other day. Denise thinks I am nuts talking to your ashes. But we both know you were and always smiling down from heaven at me.
