Joan DAVIDSON Obituary

DAVIDSON, Joan Was born October 5, 1942 in Trenton, NJ and died at her home in Tucson, AZ December 12, 2016 at the age of 74 from pancreatic cancer. She was preceded by her parents, Marriott and Jean Nadler of Miami, FL. Joan graduated from Miss Fine's school in Princeton, NJ and went on to Wellesley College where she graduated with honors as a Wellesley College Scholar. She married William Davidson, then a Harvard dental student, taught creative writing for a year, and together they continued their studies at the University of Minnesota where she completed a MA in English and gave birth to two boys, Matthew and Peter. The family followed William's university faculty appointments first to Hartford, CT where Joan partnered in an antiques business, then Jackson, MS where she performed with a modern dance company, and finally settled in Baltimore, MD where Joan became a senior regional marketing manager for the Rouse Company, which specialized in revitalizing historic city centers and landmarks. She also served as president of Sail Baltimore, coordinating the visits of tall ships to the harbor, and orchestrated FreeFall Baltimore, a free public arts program to showcase local artists and develop appreciation of and skills in the arts. Subsequent to retirement, the couple divided time between Tucson, AZ and Ocean View, DE. Joan is survived by Bill, her husband of 52 years; Matt, now an attorney based in Nogales, AZ and Pete, an HR specialist with Wells Fargo based in Columbia, SC. There are two grandchildren; Cecile, age 9 and Thomas, age 14. She is also survived by her brother, Richard and his family. Joan was happy, felt she lived a full life and had no regrets. She travelled extensively for pleasure but also often worked on medical missions with Operation Smile as a medical records manager. She was devoted to and was the center of her family. She always helped others, put others' cares before her own, and is much loved by many from all the diverse periods of her life. She will be celebrated by a small service at home in Tucson and this summer by another memorial for her east coast friends and family. Her ever-present smile and positive, caring presence will be greatly missed.

Our beautiful Joan was simply precious. She lit up every class she attended. Her smile and loving ways were contagious. She will forever live in my heart as a reflection and light as what inner beauty and goodness is truly about! I will miss her. I know she loved her family and friends so very deeply. I send my love and sympathy to all of you. Can't wait to celebrate her eternal presence this coming Saturday. Bill, this obituary is such a loving recollection of Joan and the full life she lived. All my love, Rhina Gerhauser

Bill, Richard, Matt, Pete, and family,

I was utterly heartbroken when I learned of Joan's passing. She, along with Bill, were more than just friends...she was family. Bubbie, as well as myself, adored her so much and cherished every moment we spent with Joan. I will miss Joan dearly but will remember her laugh, love of life, friendship, hospitality, and unwavering loyalty to those she loved. The world lost a unbelievably amazing woman and I was one of the lucky ones to know her!

Bill I was shocked to here this news. Joan was so vibrant and the 2 of u were guardian angels for my.mom. Little did we know that when u came to visit my mom the 2 of u must have been struggling with this news. She loved you and I came to think of u as family. I remember taking a yoga class with Joan and exchanging book titles as well as discussing raising kids. Please let me know how we can stay in touch. Bethany beach lost 2 wonderful women this year. With love, Susan Gresser

Aunt Joan as my non- relative wife would call her always made the extra effort in everything she did. She will be greatly missed by her many friends in Baltimore. God bless the entire Davidson family.

I was privileged to know Joan from her winter visits to Tucson. We met at the J.C.C. where we shared our love for Zumba, Barre classes. She was easy to talk to and we shared some personal things in my own life. She was a comfort to me. I met her wonderful husband Bill. Not sure he would remember me but I was a Dental Assistant for over 35 years and we had chatted about that. I just found out today about the loss of Joan. My heart is heavy. The last few weeks I was thinking about her returning to the J. and we could catch up.
