John KENNEY Obituary

KENNEY, John "Jack" F. passed away peacefully on October 30, 2016. Jack was born on July 24, 1951 in Worcester, MA. to the late John F. and Janice (Gonya) Kenney. He graduated in 1969 from Assumption Prep School and attended George Washington University in D.C. He worked at his family business, Ken-Weld Co. as vice president until moving to Arizona. In Tucson, he co-owned Tucson McGraw's Cantina and later opened Thirstys Neighborhood Grill, which has been open for 21 years. He was an avid fan of Boston sports, especially the Red Sox, and counted their world series titles as highlights of his life. Jack traveled all over the U.S. and to many other countries, making friends everywhere he went on his countless adventures. He was a dedicated father and grandfather. He coached in the Pantano Little League for 10 years, and helped many charitable organizations throughout his life. He will be remembered for his warm and generous heart, and his bold sense of adventure and play. Jack is survived by his son, Shane Eplett and his wife, Aimee; grandchildren, Thomas and Lily; his siblings, Robert Kenney and his wife, Nancy of Rutland, MA; and Patricia Ring and her husband, Lloyd of North Hampton, NH; as well as many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Tucson on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at Thirstys Neighborhood Grill. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in his honor to The Special Olympics.

I was one of Jack's guests when he, Rex and Corky opened Tucson McGraw's. I showed Shane how Maine lobsters swim in the bathtub. Whoops. Not that long in fresh water. Aimee, Shane and the Kenney family, I'm sorry for your loss. Many happy memories of Tucson, Worcester and the Cape came to me with this sad news.

Bob, Nancy, Pat, and Shane,

My sincere condolences in your loss of Jack, my dear friend of a very long time. Jack came around our house in Worcester when Patty was dating my brother. Spent a lot of time with Jack before high school. Got a real education about Jack, first day, freshman year math class from teacher, Wally Fields. Ray Laporte will fill in the details as he knew Jack from the same era.

I left for Minnesota for college, and Jack stayed connected. We explored the Mountains of New Hampshire. We loved time there, and wanted a piece of it. Jack found Streeter Pond and George, Roger, and I got it 39 years ago this month. Jack knowing Raymond from from the same era as I from the Hampton summers invited him in a year later after finishing a MA degree in NYC . It was our consortium. It was Jack's dream. He loved it. Ray kept it together. Always strong feelings for Jack. I think i caught his persona in this pic from long ago in his love for New Hampshire and his extended family, Slo maan, as he was nicknamed by natives in Jamaica and the Old Man of New Hampshire.

My thoughts and prayers. Will always remember.
