So many years have long passed, but I still remember how Mr. Mead supported our Jr. High baseball team. He would transport half our team to and from the games with his chevy carry-all. After the game he would take us back to the pharmacy lunch counter for a soda. Good Menouries, Thank you Mr. Mead

I just heard of the passing of Mr. Mead most telling as we are working on a 45th Reunion (Jane-Class of '72) for Flowing Wells. This reinforces the fact that 45yrs is a wonderful thing to celebrate (we don't know that there will be a 50th planned. I also wanted to mention a huge act of kindness Mr. Mead did for me. When I was very small I saw a beautiful brooch in one of his cases. I thought this would be perfect for my Mom for Christmas. I saved up and gathered enough to purchase the pin .75. I think I was perhaps 9 or 10. When they took it out of the case for me to purchase I almost cried at that point (I'm sure I did)I'm crying writing this now. The brooch was $7.50 this was 1965/66. I remember Mr. Mead selling it to me for just what I had. Made this "little girl's" Christmas. I now have the Beautiful Cameo Brooch in my possession as my Mom gave it to me. A very fine kind, caring gentleman indeed.

Mr. Mead was always nice to us kids, no matter that some of us had very little money to spend. He was always smiling and we always liked going into the drug store. I remember the little lunch area at the back, and the picture of the violin and other pictures there. Mr. Mead and his homey, up to date, but old fashioned drug store will be missed. I know the drug store part has been gone for a while, but he will always be remembered in his white coat behind the counter.

Sorry to here of Jacks passing. I met Jack upon returning from the Navy in 1955 when he worked for my Dad at Frontier Village Drug. I worked with him in the store while I went to college. My Dad then worked for Jack in Flowing Wells when he sold the Frontier Village Store.
My thoughts and prayers go out to to your family.

To the entire Mead family,
I just want to send my sincerest condolences on your loss. I remember Mr. Mead well, such a really nice man. I loved browsing through his store while my mom shopped, and occasionally, she would treat me and my siblings to something from the soda fountain. What wonderful memories. I went to Flowing Wells during the same time as Janie; she was in classes with my sister, Leah Ray, from kindergarten on. Just want to share a scriptural thought with you, that we have the wonderful hope from the Bible of seeing our loved ones again on a Paradise earth, cleansed of all suffering and sickness, and evil. I hope the promises God gives will give you comfort at this time.

I grow up with Mead Drug Store -- originally at Prince RD & Iroquois Avenue and later at Flowing Wells Plaza -- when my late parents bought in 1957 their home nearby the original location. My next neighbor, the late Mrs. Martin, worked for many years at the drug store. My mother would treat me and my two younger brothers to bananas splits at the sit-down fountain/cafe inside the drug store. My brothers and I would buy our comic books there, 5 cents and later 10 and 15 cents! My mother would mail packages and buy postage stamps from the inside contract post office. I miss our neighborhood independent drug stores -- a place meet friends and neighbors.

Jack Mead gave me my very first job. He was the best boss in the world and made my three years working at Mead's Pharmacy a source of pride and joy. Words cannot express how deeply he'll be missed. He was a leader, a teacher, and a giver. Blessings to his entire family, who grew up with our family. Our numerous adventures to Mexico camping on the beach are some of my finest most treasured memories.

Hello Pam (and family), so sorry to hear of your dad's passing. I have so many fond memories of time spent at your house on El Burrito, plus remember that great trip to Disney Land? He was such a great guy and so important in the community. Love to you all. Sharon (Kemp) Ireland and family.

God bless him. I used to love going to Meads Pharmacy. I miss the store and think of Mr. Mead and the store every time I drive by the corner of a Flowing Wells and Prince Roads.
