Dear Sweeney Family,

It was by "accident" that I stumbled upon this obit and as you can imagine my heart sank with the knowledge of John's passing. I'll never forget the big loving hug he gave me when we met again at Peggy's funeral. Nor will the outgoing, fun-loving nature and charm, so Sweeneyesque, ever be forgotten. A special shout out to his womb mate Danny, together you made the perfect pair, an adventurous couple of brothers who obviously adored their older sisters. Your mom raised a bunch of irresistably lovable children...for that the world remains a happy place.
Love and prayers always!

Sweeney family,

My heart goes out to your family. I knew John since Sacred Heart and went to Amphi with him and Danny. He was a great kid and grew into a great man. I would run into him around town when he was stacking at Nabisco. He always took the time to chat and we would catch up on everyone we knew and just how each of our families were doing. I have many fond thoughts of John and I will keep him and his family in my prayers.
Danny, I will say a special prayer for you because growing up you were so close to each other. My heart hurts for you. God bless you and keep you.

My deepest sympathy. Martha Cook (Brehaut)

I am saddened by the news of John's passing. We met in '84 at Nabisco in Tucson and had many great times together camping, fishing, and golfing (he also taught me how to play the game). He was a great friend and mentor who was always fun to be around and willing to lend a hand when needed. John, thanks for the good times and many great memories.

My dear Husband, I miss and love you so very much. The pain has been unbearable.
I wish you were still here wth us. I will
love you forever! Your loving wife, Theresa

I am so sorry to hear of John’s passing. Our families shared some fun and memories years ago. We were in school together at Sacred Heart. Although I haven’t seen John for several years, reading through the memories shared it is clear that he has touched many lives through his work and family. I will keep you all in my prayers. Keep the good memories close.

The world will be a sadder place without John in it. I worked with him at Nabisco and also Millstone. He taught me how to play golf and was always willing to share a smile. May the Lord give peace to his family and comfort them with His grace. I'll miss you John. What a good person you were.

I was deeply saddened by this news.
I remember playing football with John and Dan on the playground at Sacred Heart and when they were both neighbors with me for a short time on Pastime Rd. My heart goes out to John’s family and pray they will embrace a life well lived, and cherish their memories forever.

John will always be remembered as a kind, delightful,fun-loving,encouraging guy with the best sense of humor. We were deeply saddened of this news. We were Nabisco mates, golf buddies, traveling salesmen together. John taught both Pam and myself how to golf and was best man at our Wedding in 1988. I`ll be playing a round of golf in his honor on Thursday. We miss him already.

I am so sorry to read this about John. I used to babysit Mary Cate and Jeanne when they were babies and have thought about all of them over the years and wondered where they were and how they were. John was such a caring and wonderful Dad and one of the nicest guys I have ever known.I am sorry he went through so much and was so sick but he is in a better place now with no more suffering.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

I met John in 2001, shortly after I met Merry Beth, his wife’s sister. John loved nature; he taught me and his youngest daughter, the Sweetest T (who shares my birthday :)) to fish in the river along his property in Shirland and to canoe. When we took our weekend excursions on the river, John would point out the wildlife that made the experience so much more enjoyable and personal. During the hours on the river, we would speak about our past, present and future lives; he would make even the most serious of topics seem uplifting with his wit and laugh. What I remember most about John was his love for his daughters – Merry Cate, Jenna Bella, and the Sweetest T. He loved the different personalities he saw in them as they morphed from early childhood to young children. Merry Cate was growing up like her Mom, The Bella was his movie star, and Sweetest T was just like him – sports oriented, nature lover, and independent. John was very proud to be their father. John loved his wife Catherine, who he said took care of him as no other person in his life. He would tell me that he owed her everything and was disappointed in not reminding her more often. He would say, she is beautiful from the inside out and you could see in his blue eyes the truth of his words. I miss my time with John, but I will never forget our private moments on the river. He was a good friend and a loving father. His legacy will be carried on the totality of his loving daughters.

I'm stunned to hear the news of John's passing!! What an amazing presence he was at Amphi. He was always smiling, joking and having a good time!! His heart was sooo big. When I think of him, I can only smile, or laugh. He was always making me laugh!! Knowing both John and Dan since my Sophomore year. John was always sarcastic and I loved joking with him. He would just glare at me a jokingly expression from down the hall and I would crack up!! He was always so kind to me.

My heart and prayers go out to the entire Sweeney Family. I pray for God's peace and understanding during this time that came all, way, too soon for John and for all of you to have to understand at this time. What a legacy for John to leave, because when I think of him, I can only see him smiling and happy, just like the posted picture of him. He was a genuine, wonderful, presence and I'm grateful to have known him. I'm deeply saddened.

I'm sorry to hear the news. As a fellow vendor in the grocery trade, I remember him as the "Cracker Stacker" from his days at Nabisco. Well liked by everyone and always had a funny story to share. I will never forget that he introduced me to my wife.
