José Aviña Aros

José Aros Obituary

AROS, José Aviña. October 21, 1910 to March 10, 2011. Was born in Jocuixtle, Pueblo Nuevo, Durango, Mexico, a small village outside of the City of Durango, capital of the state of Durango, to José Bravo Aros and Julia Aviña. But as the turmoil of the Mexican Revolution of 1910 grew worse his father decided to return to his parents home in Florence, AZ so the young Joe came to the U.S. in 1918. It was quickly decided that in order to get a good education it was necessary to move to Phoenix and so Joe graduated from Phoenix Union High, class of 1930, and then, with his father, moved to Tucson to attend the University of Arizona. But, due to the financial difficulties of the Great Depression, his college days were short lived and Joe opened a shoe repair shop on East Congress, at first, and then later on West Congress. In 1938 he met and married Josephine Marchello and they had three children. By 1965 Joe was forced to quit his shoe repair shop and went to work for Hughes Aircraft Company, from which he retired and moved to Green Valley, AZ. Joe was predeceased by his wife, Josphine. He is survived by his daughters, Lydia (Richard) Harris, of Los Altos, CA, Cecilia Aros (Les) Hunter of Tucson, and his son, Joseph Richard (Sharon) Aros of Riverside, CA. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and four great-granddaughters. Services for Joe will be held on Wednesday March 16, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Philip's In the Hills Church. Arrangements handled by GREEN VALLEY MORTUARY.
