Joseph Oscar "Joe" DUFFY III

DUFFY, Joseph Oscar, III "Joe" 85, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2017 at the Orting Soldiers Home in Orting, Washington after a battle with cancer. Joe was born September 6, 1931 in Mangum, Oklahoma to Violet and Joseph Duffy joining his sister, Gayle. He was a football star in high school earning a scholarship to Notre Dame (which he had to give up after getting sick his freshman year). He attended college, served his country, and returned to college earning his BS in 1958 at Northern Arizona University and his MA in 1965 at the University of Southern California. He continued to play football in college and was a proud member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He married Sandra Rickerd on October 27, 1958 and adopted and raised his two sons, Brendan and Patrick. Joe became a teacher and later an administrator but his real love was business. He got his Real Estate license in 1971 and in 1975 he opened his own brokerage in Tubac, Arizona. His contributions in Tubac were significant to the development and growth of the community. After his divorce, he moved to Phoenix and then back to Mangum where he spent the rest of his life. Throughout his entire life he always maintained his positive outlook and sense of humor. He is preceded in death by his father, mother, former wife, and sister. He is survived by sons, Patrick and Brendan and grandchildren, Patrick, Heather, and Orein. Services have not been planned yet.
