Kerry Swett Obituary

SWETT, Kerry (1948 to 2017) On January 9, 2017, Kerry Faye Swett, a fierce fighter till the end, joined her parents, Norman and Virginia Spelhaug in the Norse Valhalla after living 68 very full years of life. Her family was with her when she peacefully passed. Kerry had a successful early career as a senior X-Ray technician at San Jose Hospital, but achieved her true calling as the mother of three great children. Kerry (Spelhaug) Swett was born in Oakland, CA on October 23, 1948 and raised in Pleasant Hill and Concord, CA. She traveled to San Jose, CA for X-Ray training and met her future husband at the infamous San Benito County Rodeo dance in June 1970. They were wed October 4, 1975 and remained very happily married till her passing. Kerry and her family moved to Tucson, AZ in 1990 where she raised her family and became an active volunteer in the Catalina Foothills School District. Kerry loved to travel, cook and laugh with friends and family. Guests always knew that a meal at the Swett's would be a gastronomic treat that would magically appear after perfect cocktails and unique appetizers. The visit was always filled with lots of laughter and love for all guests. She was a movie aficionado. She taught her husband, three kids and grandchildren the finer points of the great directors like Wilder, Hitchcock, Ford, Et. Al. She was a harsh critic and was one of the few people who had the body of work knowledge to tell you which of the three versions (1937, 1954 or 1976) of A Star is Born was best (hint: think Judy Garland). Further, she frowned upon what she considered needless redos (take that Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga in but another forthcoming version of A Star is Born). She is survived by her husband, Geoffrey of Tucson; her children and in-laws, Erik and Ravi (Bhullar) Swett of Tucson, Lara (Swett) and Brian Reed of Washington, DC and Nolan and Laurie (Paszkiewicz) Swett of Missoula, Montana; her grandchildren, Joban Swett, Milo and Owen Reed and forthcoming Stella Faye Swett; and her sister, Jan Peckfelder of Sweet Home, OR. Donations to the American Cancer Society or the Susan G. Komen organization are welcomed in lieu of flowers. A Celebration of her life will be held at the Bahia Resort Hotel, 998 W. Mission Bay Dr., San Diego, CA 92109 on Saturday, March 4, 2017. Arrangements by ANGEL VALLEY FUNERAL HOME.

Geoff, I am so sad to hear of your sweet Kerry's passing. Such a wonderful and gracious partner in life. I had no idea she had been ill. I found out just yesterday from Joe Guida and David Friedman. They honored Jess at the 4C Conference with the LifeTime Achievement Award. To lose a spouse is so hard and my heart aches with you. Much love and prayers as you walk down this path.

To the family and friends of Mrs. Kerry Faye Swett. I'm so sorry for your loss, but know that you can depend on God in times like these. I've found these verses to be of comfort at John the 5th chapter the 28th and the 29th verse.

Hugs to family and friends. As you remember her, follow her example, live-laugh-love. May all you remember help ease the pain. -- John 6:40, 5:28, 29, 11:2-26; Psalms 11, 29
