Kevin Foster Obituary

Kevin Jack Foster passed away January 20, 2010 at Casa de la Luz Hospice. He was pre-deceased by his brother, father and both sets of grandparents and survived by his mother, Lesa Foster and uncle, Jack C. von Bloeker, III (wife Velma; son, Jack IV; grandson, Jack V); aunt, Pat Thomas (husband, Larry; sons, John, Paul, Steve and daughter, Sheryl); Kevin survived Cystic Fibrosis for 48½ years before finally succumbing to the dreaded genetic disease. Born in Hollywood, California on July 12, 1961, he was not expected to live over five years. But he, like his brother, David, was very healthy. They just kept on living and amazing all their doctors. David predeceased him, at 37½, but Kevin just kept on living and living and living, until the doctors at University Medical Center asked his permission to study him. He could be extremely ill upon entering the Cystic Center and then return to health within two weeks and go home! He was a Film Editor for ten years, until he grew physically unable to work. Learning of the existence of the Cystic Fibrosis Clinic in Tucson, he joined his mother and brother, who had already relocated here. A sports enthusiast, who had played baseball and basketball in Little League and throughout school as well as riding motorcycles, both street and dirt, until he could no longer physically do so. He was also crazy about camping in the mountains and National Parks. He had a charming, sparkling personality, and was well-liked by all he knew. There will be a viewing at HUDGEL'S SWAN FUNERAL HOME on Monday, January 25, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. till noon, with a Memorial Service to follow at St. Francis in the Foothills Methodist Church at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

As a nurse I took care of Kevin for 8 years at UMC. I spent many hours over the years talking to Kevin about life and death and everything in between. Kevin was a very unique individual and loved to tell a story. He often spoke of his family especially his Uncle and truly loved them. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. Kevin fought this dreaded disease with everything in him. He amazed me and I hope he is at peace.

As a Respiratory Therapist at UMC, I cared for Kevin and his brother David for many years. Kevin will always be one of my most unforgetable characters. Even when he felt awful he could talk your ear off. I always felt (and the wording of his obit mirrors this) that he was the Eveready Bunny of the CF patient population. 3NE will be a much quieter place without him.
Love and peace upon you Kevin.

I am very sorry to hear of Kevin's passing. I did not know Kevin but my brother Robert did. Robert too has Cystic Fibrosis and is 39. Robert had only good things to say of Kevin. Sometimes they would be at UMC at the same time for the "tune-up" as Rob calls it. It was nice when you knew someone else on the floor was in when you were in too. CF really takes a toll on a family in many many ways. May he rest in peace. My prayers are with your family.

I knew Kevin only for the last couple of years. He was a courageous and very decent person. He will be missed. JG
