Lily Meyer Obituary
Lily Thelmine Meyer 1/12/10 – 2/26/11 passed away in her sleep after an adventurous 101 years. She was a resident these last few years at Emeritus at Tanque Verde. She will be remembered for her smile and positive can-do attitude. She was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Sherman; a grandson, Michael and a great-grandson, Thomas. She is survived by her two sons, Wayne (Kay) and Jon; former daughter-in-law, Charlotte Meyer; three grandchildren, Maria Oakum, Lisa Livingston (Kent) and Brian Meyer (Katie) and 13 great-grandchildren, Jordan, Trevor, Madeline, Grant, Rhett, Alexis, Jacob, Charlene, Francine, Kathlene, Wayne, Jeffrey and Steven. She is also survived by five great-great-grandchildren. Lily and Sherman started their lives together in Fenton, Iowa, she as a teacher, he as an osteopathic physician and surgeon. They moved to Hot Springs, New Mexico, in 1944 to escape harsh Iowa winters, and, in 1946 after World War II ended, they moved to Phoenix, Arizona. Lily was very active in hospital auxiliary functions and Central Methodist Church in Phoenix. She loved to play bridge, golf, any kind of fishing and entertaining guests with one of her gourmet meals. After her sons left for college, she and a partner formed the Amber Kitchen to market homemade candies. Following that, she managed the Phoenix Date Ranch for many years. After 19 years in Phoenix, she and Sherman moved to Parker, Arizona, to continue practicing medicine and help build a community hospital. She is survived by many friends along the river communities of Parker and Lake Havasu. Lily will be remembered for her strength and tenacity in coping with being nearly blind and very deaf during her last five years. She is greatly loved and missed and will be cherished in our hearts forever. We are thankful for the wonderful care she received by the staff and caregivers at Emeritus at Tanque Verde (formerly The Place at Tanque Verde) and Peppi's House hospice care. Cremation was held on March 1, 2011, and administered by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that contributions be made in her honor to either Emeritus at Tanque Verde or Peppi's House at Tucson Medical Center.
