Marion A. Paton 87, a resident of Patagonia, AZ since 1973, died peacefully at home on August 29, 2009. Known as the Hummingbird Lady of Patagonia, Marion, and her late husband Wally, opened their home to the world after several rare hummingbirds built nests in their backyard in the early 1990's. Since then tens of thousands of birdwatchers every year have traveled from all over the world to Paton's backyard to observe a myriad of hummingbirds, finches, buntings, orioles, woodpeckers, and more. A celebration of Marion's life will be held at the Patagonia Community United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Marion is survived by her four children, Wally, Bonnie Moon, George, and Jackie Covey and five grandchildren, Casey and Kelly Paton, Michael Moon, and Emily and Sarah Covey. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Marion and Wally Paton can be sent to: The Paton Family Trust, c/o Bonnie J. Moon, Trustee, 4 Clinton Terrace, Westport, CT 06880.
