Born on November 3, 1927 in Aberdeen, South Dakota, he moved to his desert home in the 50's where he was a professor at the Laboratory of Tree Ring Research at the University of Arizona until his retirement in 1987. He was passionate about his teaching and his love of the desert and was proud of his lovingly restored adobe home in the Ft. Lowell historic district in Tucson. He leaves behind his loving wife, Tally; children, Christine Stokes and husband, Steven Franklin, Kathleen Little and husband, Joe Little; step-children, Glen, Ann and Alex Gilkerson; grandchildren, Alyssa and Erica Little, and Leandra and Nicolas Gilkerson.
