BARON, Mary Cecilia age 90, the daughter of Charles Michael and Josephine Frances (Fitzgerald) Hinchey, passed away in Tucson, Arizona on June 4, 2017. Born in Cameron, MO on January 11, 1927, she graduated Lathrup HS in 1945. She earned her RN from Avila College in 1949, joining the VA in Leavenworth later that year before being transferred to Des Moines. Her life journey took her from Missouri to Morocco and beyond. In 1955, she joined the Air Force as a First Lieutenant. While stationed at Davis Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, she met the love of her life, John Baron, a career AF serviceman. They married in 1956, cherishing each other during their 42 years together. A devoted mother and caring career nurse, she tended to newborns at the Navy Hospital in Morocco, but found her true calling in geriatric nursing. She worked at the VA in Tucson, AZ and later retired in 1986 from the VA in Leavenworth, where she served as Chief Nurse of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, James and Charles Hinchey, sister, Susan Tuttle and daughter-in-law, Judy Bacon. She is survived by daughter, Catherine, son, James Michael and wife, Kate, stepson, Cary Bacon, seven grandchildren, Daniel, Lauren, John-Garrett, Scott, Cole, McQuin, and step-grandson David and one bubbly two-year old great-grandson, Brantley. She is lovingly remembered by her family and her many friends for her love, kindness, beauty, sense of fun, bridge playing finesse, and the best apple pies on the planet. She was always ready to help others, volunteering frequently to assist those in need. Although legally blind since 2001 from Macular Degeneration, with invaluable support from the Southern Arizona Association for the Visually Impaired (SAAVI), she enjoyed a wonderful life surrounded by family and friends. She will be buried alongside her husband Friday, June 16, 2017 at the Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kansas. Family requests donations in her memory be made to SAAVI (
