Mitchell Charles Dorson was born on August 19, 1948 in New York City, NY. He was the first of two boys born to Sylvia (nee Butler) and William Dorson. At a young age, Mitch and his family moved to Tucson for a new start. He attended Tucson High, where he was an active member of the Speech and Debate Team. He graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in Journalism. Mitch met the love of his life, Cathy (nee Kahn) in the late seventies and they started their family together soon after. In addition to his beloved children, Mitch's greatest passion was his teaching. He was the Director of Education at Temple Emanu-El, a beloved teacher at Catalina Foothills High School and later Greenfields Country Day School. He touched hundreds of students lives, both within the Jewish Community and within the Tucson Community. Mitch was also an active member of Or Chadash, and was a supporter of countless organizations, including the ACLU. When Mitch wasn't teaching, he was walking Sabino Canyon, reading, writing a memoir or watching his favorite teams, the San Francisco Giants and the NY Giants. Mitch is survived by his daughter, Elana (Mike) Giordano; son, Noah; his brother, Bob (Nancy) Dorson; several nieces and nephews, and countless friends, colleagues and students. Those who loved him are welcome to attend a Memorial Service Wednesday, May 16, 2012, 5:30 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mitchell Dorson to the Community Food Bank or UNICEF. Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY.
