Paul was a wonderful, generous, gentle and funny person who it was my absolute pleasure to have as a colleague and friend in Mogadishu. He always saw the best in everyone and managed to lighten tense situations with that twinkle in his eye and his humour (British spelling). Rest in peace Paul xxxx

Thanks for everything you have given.

I sit in my office, high in the snow-tipped mountains of eastern Anatolia, fondly remembering my first administrative position on the hot, humid shores of the Indian Ocean in Mogadishu, thanks to Paul. My family and I spent 8 wonderful years in Africa, a continent for which Paul shared his love through stories and music so that others could grow to love it as well. There wasn't a lot of culinary variety in Somalia but we knew that when Paul went out in his boat, we would have a freezerful of tuna for the next few weeks. It will be hard not to think of Paul when I listen to African rhythms and melodies, forever. Fish in Peace.
