He worked as a drywall finisher for over 45 years and he taught his trade to his sons, who are to this day still active in the profession. Pete married the love of his life, MaryAnn Carroll on September 19, 1959. Pete is preceded in death by both his parents, Peter G. and Rose M. Dittiger; his brother, Joseph Dittiger and his grandson, Stephen Mahaffey. He is survived by his wife, MaryAnn and their seven children, Peter Jr. (Tina), Joe (Sandy), Kathy (Tim), Mary (David), Robert (Joanne), Deborah and William (Arcy). Pete was an avid outdoorsman and he shared this passion with his children. Every summer they could be found on the banks of the Black River enjoying the fishing and scenery. He loved his wife and family, and he will be missed by all! A Mass celebrating his life will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Lung Association in Pete's name. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Dittiger Family. They have meant a lot to us. There friendship and encouragement through Marriage Ministries International gave our marriage a strong foundation to be built upon through Jesus Christ. I look forward to meeting him in heaven.

To the entire Dittiger family - It's been many years since we've talked but it seemed like just yesterday when I saw Pete's photo in the paper and wanted to offer our condolences.

I remember fondly back in the late 1960's when Mary Ann was kind enough to let me walk or ride to church with the family even though I wasn't Catholic at the time. Guess what, 25+ years later I finally converted and I still have my little "doillie" and prayer book from the days when ladies still had to have the head covered and the masses were in Latin. We loved spending hours at your house.

I also recall how special your dad was to my brother Jim, taking him on hunting trips and excursions. Since we grew up without a dad it was an extra special period of time that will never be forgotten.

So, Jim & I send our love and prayers and thanks!

Mary Ann -

When you married Peter you became a member of one of the finest families I've ever known. Your delicious smile must have been the secret ingredient in the generous Dittiger "goulash". Peter was the "good boy" who grew into the better man we grew up and older with. May you have the strength for this present sadness and rejoice with your gathered family as you re-run the memories of a life well-lived. To you and your tribe: As God has blessed you in Peter, surely He will continue to kiss your forehead in love, taking away your pain and leaving peace.

My fond reminiscences embrace your own.

Pete,

Thoughts & prayers to you & the family upon learning of your Dad's passing. Have often thought of the verbal bantering we had so much fun at on so many jobs. He was an excellent man.

Joe...my thoughts go out to your mom and you and your brothers and sisters and family. Time waits for no one...but God waits for all of us. Sorry for your loss. Larry Nitka

MaryAnn & family,
Pete indeed will be greatly missed. He thought about others... He always asked about Phil & my kids... would send a "say hi to Phil for me and tell him not to be a stranger" when we had family get togethers. Will miss seeing him doing some kind of yard work, composting & watering with recycled water, never one to waste!
God Bless you Pete.
My prayers to the family.

MaryAnn and the Dittiger family,
Please accept my condolences for the passing of your husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather Peter Sr.

Pete Sr. was a wonderful man and he will be greatly missed. Growing up he was a man that kept me in check if my parents were not around and I cannot begin to say how much respect I have for him then and now. I apologize that I cannot make it there for the services but I will be sending prayers your way, and please know that I will be thinking of you all during this difficult time. Godspeed Pete Sr. and thank you for being like a 2nd father to me.
Regards,
James Butierez
