Richard STRAYER Obituary

STRAYER, Richard L. "Dick" 1938 - 2016 A LIFE WELL-LIVED: Dick died after a brief battle with lung cancer on the 22nd of December at his Tucson residence. His wife of 52 years, Louise, was at his side. He is the son of Ray and Edna Strayer. He is survived by his mother and children, Scott, Marjorie, Richard and their families. Dick graduated from The University of Arizona and Thunderbird School of Global Management. He served his country as a member of the Arizona Air National Guard. As an executive with international companies, Dick and family traveled and worked in developing countries and Canada. Upon retirement, Dick and Louise returned to Tucson. For the remainder of his professional life, he joined The University of Arizona Department of Parking and Transportation /Special Events. Dick loved boating on Canadian and U.S. waterways. He was also an avid cyclist qualifying for the National Senior Olympics and enjoyed touring throughout many States and most of all Arizona. A LIFE WELL-LIVED: In his quiet, steadfast manner, Dick strove to enrich the lives of his family and friends. He is remembered and respected by all whose lives he touched. Close friends and family will gather throughout the year to remember his life and to spread his ashes in the places that he so loved and that brought him joy. This is all we have to keep a truly fine American in our memories.

Those we love do not go away
they walk beside us every day
still loved, still missed and very dear
Unseen, unheard, but always near.

And so my Dear husband who I fell so in love with, and married 55 years ago we have been parted going onto 3 years:
Your life has lived in me, your laugh once lifted me, your word was gift to me.
To remember this brings painful joy.
'Tis a human thing, love, a holy thing, to love what death has touched.'

Rest In Peace Dad.

You will always be my hero, and the life you led will always be an example for me and many others to follow. I feel so blessed to have had you as my Dad for 78 full years, and I take comfort that we will be joined in eternal life one day. You will always be my hero, the ideal family man, and you instilled in me a love for travel and acceptance of all.

And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.

Dick's passing brought back so many happy memories of our time in Brockville when our kids were younger.
To us Dick was always the epitome of the "Quiet American" , coping with broken bike chains or malfunctioning skis in an oasis of calm authority..
You were such an active , vital couple it was an honour to let us share a snippet of your lives. Gil & Rick

I was saddened to hear of Dick's passing. He was a wonderful and kind person, who treated everyone with dignity and respect. I enjoyed working with Dick at the University of Arizona's Parking and Transportation Services, and relied on his experience and expertise. He was one of the first individuals I met at PTS, and we developed a strong working relationship during my tenure at the U of A. A true professional, who had stories to tell for hours at a time. His adventures for traveling by motorcycle and bicycle were interesting and priceless. We could certainly use more people like Dick in today's society, and if we did, the world could be better and more respectful.
