Roberta Virginia YOUNG

YOUNG, Roberta Virginia was born on July 23, 1947, and passed away on August 9, 2017. Born and raised in Tucson, AZ, Roberta is a Rincon High School graduate Class of '65. She met many amazing and beautiful friends during her long time career at the Arizona Daily Star, St. Joseph's Hospital, Thomas-Davis Clinic, La Frontera, and through her personal business. She also volunteered to help out many groups, clubs and organizations for many years. Roberta left an everlasting impression on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. She had a heart of gold and showed nothing but care, kindness, and compassion towards all. Her beautiful, bright smile brought life and happiness wherever she was. Even as she fought valiantly during her battle with cancer, she always put others first and never complained about what she was going through. She is deeply missed by all her family and the many wonderful friends she has made throughout her journey and travels. Roberta absolutely adored her great- grandchildren, Zackary and the newest addition, Riley. They were the light of her life and her love and kindness will live on through them. She is preceded in death by her parents, Hector Sr. and Virginia Durand, and her sister, Christina "Cookie" Durand. She is survived by her sister, Sandra Lane; brother, Hector Durand Jr., daughter, Helen "Paula" Young; grandchildren, Cassandra (Christian) Cromwell, whom Roberta lovingly raised as her own daughter, Sarah Deisering, Timothy Deisering; great- grandchildren, Zackary Cromwell and Riley Cromwell and nieces and nephews. We may have lost our beloved Birdie, but her beautiful spirit and the wonderful memories we shared with her still live on through all of us. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Viscount Suite Hotel, 4855 E. Broadway Blvd. and a balloon release after the Celebration at the Cancer Survivors Plaza in Reid Park. Please wear something bright, as she wouldn't want us to mourn her loss but celebrate her life and happiness. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Special Olympics Arizona, Arizona Cancer Society, or Arizona Basset Hound Rescue.
