Vernon Blom Obituary

Vernon Blom passed away on April 27, 2011, with his family at his side. Survived by his lovely wife, Betty of 54 years; three children, Warren, Bud and Lisa, along with five grandchildren. A loving husband, father and grandfather, who loved skiing, fishing, tinkering, gardening, the Arizona deserts and spending time with his family. He was born in Seattle, Washington, in 1926; grew up in Ballard and became a certified ski instructor; served in WWII and then worked for the US Government as a communications specialist, moving from Seattle to Anchorage, AK, and then to Sierra Vista, AZ, to raise three children. During his years in Sierra Vista, he was a Rotarian, a Boy Scout Leader who helped both his sons achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, Masonic Temple member, loving husband and father. Upon his retirement in 1991, he and wife moved to Rancho Vistoso and their home overlooking the beautiful mountains and deserts of Northwestern Tucson. He continued his service to Rotary and helped grow a new chapter in the local area and was a member of the Stephens Ministry. In the 90's, he and Betty served as emergency response team leaders for the American Red Cross Disaster Relief. He spent his life devoted as a loving husband and father to his family, and "Papa" to his grandkids. His friends knew him as warm and caring, always ready to help. We will all miss Vern and his love for life…God Bless You, Husband, Dad and Papa! The family will hold a "celebration of life" memorial on Friday, May 13, 2011, at the Vistoso Golf Club from 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m., overlooking his favorite mountains as the sun colors them at sunset. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to the Resurrection Lutheran Church, Oro Valley. Arrangements entrusted to DESERT SUNSET CATALINA, 520-818-0038.
