Vernon John LEGVOLD

LEGVOLD, Vernon John passed away October 17, 2016. He was preceded in death by parents, Avis and Oscar Legvold and brother, Dennis Lane. He was born March 18, 1946 in Grand forks, ND. Survived by his sister, Mary Legvold Stebbins and husband, Roger of Irving, TX; brother, Mark Brent Legvold and wife, Sara of Keller TX; nephew, John Howard Stebbins and wife, Leslie of Atlanta, GA; nieces, Pamela Jean O'Brien of Webster, ND; Angelica Maria Legvold of Keller, TX; Stacy Laine Hund and husband, Brenton of Atlanta, GA; Stephanie Anne Sandherr and husband, Justin of Pittsburgh PA; Marla Alexandra and Sonia Christina Legvold of Carrollton, TX; also survived by several great and great-great nieces and nephews. He was blessed with devoted friends, Mark Fagan, Alton Pyle and their precious families of Tucson, AZ. Vernon graduated from Boulder High School. He had special memories of those days along with many close friendships tragedy struck when he was paralyzed in a car accident in 1967 coming home from Estes Park, Colorado. With his unwavering determination, he continued his college career and graduated with a civil engineering degree from University of Colorado. His 30 year career with IBM began in Boulder and continued in Tucson. He was a pioneer in developing computer hardware systems. He was honored by IBM for his many patents and contributions while in their employ. During his retirement years, energy became his interest. He was passionate about new inventions, and the amazing creative minds bringing together their dreams. He was an avid follower of sports. He was co-captain along with Dick Anderson of the Boulder High School Panthers as they fought for the 1963 state football championship. He coached a girls softball team in Boulder and in Tucson. He was a determined, tenacious, and compassionate man, with a soft heart for our youth and contributed monthly to children overseas. With his great mind and passionate heart, he lived a proud and productive life.
