Marie H. Richard

Obituary
  • "We enjoyed having Marie as a member of the Tucson Chapter..."

Marie H. Richard devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, peacefully passed in her sleep February 18, 2014. Born in Reynoldsville, Pennsylvania, Marie and her brother, Tom were raised by their Aunt Myrtle following their mother's passing when Marie was seven. After high school, Marie left her western Pennsylvania home for Washington D.C. and a job at the FBI. A few years later, while working for a bank in Florida, she met George Richard, a young 2nd Lt. from Louisiana who was stationed in Miami. They married at Florida's Homestead Air Force base August 15, 1959. Shortly thereafter, they started a family and soon had five sons. As a military family, they moved around the country, ultimately settling in Tucson in the early 1970's. Gregarious and civic-minded, Marie was active in a variety of organizations, including the D-M Officer's Wives Club, Cub Scouts, PTA and various committees of Tucson Unified School District, and citizen advisory committees for the City of Tucson and Pima County. Her love and care for people extended beyond family, making a positive impact on the lives of many who considered her, "Mom". She delighted in being surrounded by family and friends, and her grandchildren were the center of her days in recent years. Marie is survived by her husband, George and their five sons and their families: Lee, Liz and grandson, Paul; Jim and Laura; Tim; Tom and Mickey and John, Staci and granddaughters, Soleil and Sophie and extended family. She is greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
