Beverly Jane Johnson 86, of Tucson, passed away May 26, 2014, joining the love of her life, Duane Steffen Johnson, her husband for 56 years until his death in 2005. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Beverly was born March 22, 1928, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and moved to Tucson in 1956, following her parents, Michael and Leona Chesnick. Beverly loved quilting, making dolls and sewing for her daughters. In the late 1970s, she operated a small shop where she sold quilts and other handmade items at the DeGrazia Plaza on Campbell and Prince, then at Pima and Alvernon. Her most famous client was Meadowlark Lemon of the Harlem Globetrotters, who bought a quilt for his wife. Active in the White Mountains' quilting guild, she and Duane would summer in the Pinetop/Lakeside area and belonged to "The Friends of the Library." Beverly loved to read and bird-watch. She also was an avid cook and baker, still making muffins for friends and family until her death, and cared for her grandchildren whenever needed. She will be deeply missed. Survived by brother, Gordon (Lillian) Chesnick; children, Gayle (Lee) Markham, Deone (Larry) Sottosanti, Dean, Dane and Janele; grandchildren, Jesse Markham, Leona and Ted Sottosanti, and Casey and Elizabeth Chmielowiec. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway. A Memorial Service will be held around Duane's birthday in October.
