William Edward Maxwell 8/3/1934 - 7/22/2014 William Maxwell was born on August 3, 1934 at the Hotel Dieu in El Paso, TX. He grew up in New Mexico and Arizona. Bill entered peacefully into Heaven's Glory on July 22, 2014. He was the loving patriarch of "The Maxwell Clan," survived by his beautiful wife of 55 years, Gussie "Jo." Together, they lovingly raised four children, Mark (Erin) Maxwell, Mary (Mike) Sanders, James (Jeni) Maxwell and Sarah (Bill) Van Hook. Bill also was blessed with ten grandchildren whom he loved and enjoyed. Bill graduated from the University of Arizona as did his four children. After 27 years of dedicated service, he retired from the City of Tucson Finance Department. Bill was a man not defined only by what he did, but by how he lived. He lived an energetic life full of a passion for knowledge, an interest in people, and a love of the outdoors. Bill enjoyed traveling with his family to the canyons and mountains of the Western US, where when struck by a beautiful scene he would declare: "This is God's Country!" He stayed fit by hiking and bicycling in the foothills and mountains of Southern Arizona. It's been said: "Old bicyclists never die, they just pedal away." We miss you Dad, but we know we'll see you someday in "God's Country." A Memorial Service will take place on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at the Acacia Elementary School MPR, 12955 E. Colossal Cave Rd., Vail, AZ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the building fund for Vail Valley Baptist Church, P.O. Box 13801, Vail, AZ 85641 or the University of Arizona Alumni Scholarship Fund (www.alumni.arizona.edu). Go Cats! Arrangements by ANGEL VALLEY FUNERAL HOME.
