Theodore TAUBENECK Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 10, 2017.
TAUBENECK, Theodore Dooley      11/18/1926 - 11/30/2017 Theodore, known to friends and family as "TD", passed away on Thursday at the age of 91.  He was born in Bronxville, N.Y. to Ignatius and Bess Dooley Taubeneck and is predeceased by his sister, Evalu. He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley (McKay) after 66 years of marriage and friendship. He leaves behind his children, Steven Taubeneck, Ann Foody, David Taubeneck, Lee Taubeneck, Catherine Gosset, Amy Severance, Elizabeth Megerle, Molly Ballou and Paul Taubeneck; twenty four grandchildren, and twenty five great-grandchildren. TD graduated from Princeton University (Class of 1948) and Harvard Law School (Class of 1951). TD served in the military (Army) and continued his exercise routines daily. His dedication to his family and faith were of prime importance in his life. He leaves a legacy of examples as a church Lector, Eucharistic Minister, and Prison Ministry in the Tucson, Arizona area. TD provided opportunities for family reunions every five years in order to maintain family ties and positive relationships for his offspring and their families. TD was an active supporter of music, theater, arts, museums and sports and was a lifelong Pittsburgh Steeler fan. His quest for education was never complete in spite of multiple degrees. He was a regular attendee in the University of Arizona Humanities Seminar Programs with his wife, Shirley. He enjoyed time as an Adjunct Professor at Rutgers University, New Jersey.   He had a rewarding career starting with the U.S. Justice Department Tax Division, the Koppers Corporation, Rockwell International, and SL Industries. His experience in International Law and Finance required extensive travel and resulted in TD's ongoing interest in acquiring information and his ability to enjoy diversity of peoples, music, and cultural customs. His quest for learning was ongoing and has been passed on to most family members.  Broadway shows were a staple for TD and Shirley and when possible often included available children, grandchildren, or friends. Td and Shirley lived in St. Louis, Missouri; Chevy Chase, Maryland; Mount Lebanon, Pennsylvania; London, England; New York City, New York; Mt. Laurel, New Jersey; and Tucson, Arizona.     A Memorial service will be held at the family cemetery in Downs, Illinois in the spring. A Mass was held at the Holy Trinity Church, Tucson, Arizona. The Memorial service will be a time of gathering to celebrate his life. Date to be announced.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Ted's memory may be made to any of the following organizations:  The University of Arizona's Humanities Seminars Program or the U of A's Theatre Arts Department, to the Most Holy Trinity Church, or to True Concord.

Ted was my Ted's (Drury) friend since Princeton University put them together as roomates for the class of 1948. That began a life-long friendship until 2004 when my Ted died. Now those two are together again. I'll always be glad to have known my Ted's great friend and glad Ted T. was the best man at my Ted's and my wedding. Sending sincere sympathies to the Tauberneck family.

A true gentleman who cared deeply about his fellow man. Ted loved family, learning, and justice, as well as enjoying life with those around him. The world is a poorer place for his passing.
