Shizuyo Matsumoto Born on March 1, 1918 in El Monte, CA, Shizuyo Matsumoto of Tucson, AZ left this world silent and dignified as she live on December 13, 2008. She was an integral part of her daughter's family (Joyce and Wayne Tominaga) for 19 years. She would often tell her daughter "I feel like I am living like a queen." Mr. and Mrs. Matsumoto and family were long time residents of Mesa, AZ prior to her move to Tucson in 1990. They provided for their family by owning and operating a grocery store in Mesa for 20 years, where all members of the family participated in the venture. Mrs. Matsumoto is survived by her brother, Kiyoshi Kondo and sister, Misao Kondo, both of Japan, seven children, 14 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Her children include Ken Matsumoto (Yasuko) of Indianapolis, IN; Fred Matsumoto (Kimie) of Cerritos, CA; Larry Matsumoto (Fay) of Mountain View, CA; Jane Ikuta (Susumu) of Manlius, NY; Joyce Tominaga (Wayne) of Tucson, AZ; Mary Ching (Steve) of Kapaa, HI; Betty Matsumoto-Schuch (Clifford) of Redwood City, CA. In the words of her youngest grandson, "a person never truly dies until they are forgotten; and so Grandma will live on forever." Services for Mrs. Matsumoto will be private. She will be interred at the Mesa Cemetary next to her husband.
