Lodema Louise Sellars Born on October 6, 1941 of Sierra Vista, AZ passed away on June 1, 2010. She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul McNickel Tivis and Ethel Laura Tivis, and her sister, Joyce Nadine Kelley. She is survived by her loving children, Lisa Louise Sellars and Mark Robert Featherstone; and her brother, Jim Henry Tivis. Most people have never met a Lodema and wonder where the name originated, but once they met her they never forgot her and memories of her will remain as unique. Lodema moved to Tucson, Arizona with her family in 1946 when it was not much larger than Sierra Vista. She grew up in a one bedroom house behind a gas station that her father built with a Yaqui Indian. The house had no running water and the outhouse was very far away. Lodema was a member of the second graduating class of Flowing Wells School at age 17. Immediately following, she began her career in insurance at Arizona Trust Company, a career which lasted 51 years. She always liked to tell people she started when she was two. She faced many obstacles as a woman in a male dominated industry, but never allowed that to stop her. In 1978, she moved to Sierra Vista for the opportunity to become partner in a small agency that her current company purchased and was told to "sink or swim". In 1984 she bought her partner's interest. Lodema always had a love for Sierra Vista and made a point to be very involved in the community. Her roles include first woman President of the Chamber of Commerce, a long time member of the Sierra Vista Rotary Club and Sierra Vista Executive Association and Education Chairman for Cochise County Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of Arizona. She was a Foundation Board Member of the Sierra Vista Regional Health Center. Lodema dedicated herself to making a difference in the Sierra Vista Community. Her personal and professional contributions touched many lives and she will be greatly missed. Lodema's life will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 5, 2010 at Windemere Hotel and Conference Center, 2047 S Highway 92, Sierra Vista, AZ. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to http://www.info-komen.org/goto/lodemasellars.
