Albert Ney Eldred Albert Ney Eldred passed away peacefully Thursday evening, June 30, 2011. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Shirley Jean Eldred (nee Hansen). The couple leave behind three sons and their families, Ric (Leonora), John (Sherry) and Bob (Marlene), as well as four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Albert Ney Eldred was born on October 26, 1920 in Ionia, Michigan. He attended the University of Michigan, completing his undergraduate studies in 1941, at which time he entered Law School. Ney met Shirley in the summer of 1942 and they married on December 5th of that same year. When WWII broke out, Ney suspended his studies to join the US Navy as an officer. He served on the USS Sway minesweeper in the Atlantic, Caribbean and Pacific. Following Ney's service and completion of Law School, the couple settled in Ionia, Michigan, where Ney began practicing law. From 1951-1955, Ney served two terms as Prosecuting Attorney for Ionia County. The family moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1958, where Ney worked as a Trust Officer at Valley National Bank for nearly ten years. Ney studied and passed the Arizona Bar in 1967 and practiced law in Tucson until he retired in 1985. Ney was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity and a life-long member of the Lions Club. Ney was an avid hunter and outdoorsman all of his life. He and Shirley would often set out on camping trips to remote parts of Arizona. His other great passion was world travel. In their later years, Ney and Shirley travelled extensively to all seven continents and throughout the United States. Ney also taught himself how to make pottery and jewelry, creating dozens of lovely pieces. In 2002, Ney and Shirley moved to the Fountains at La Cholla, where they made many wonderful friends. The family thanks Joe and Becky and our friends at Wingate's Adult Care Home for the loving care they gave Ney in his final days. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. in the chapel at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Road. Arrangements by HEATHER MORTUARY.
