Helen L. Macleod Resident of Green Valley, Helen died peacefully on January 13, 2013. She was 79 years old. She was preceded in death by her brother William and her sister Margaret, and survived by her sister Catherine. Born in New York City on September 30, 1933 to William and Helen Macleod, Helen grew up in Dobbs Ferry, New York. She graduated with a conservation degree from Wellesley College, Massachusetts and went on to obtain a master's degree from the University of Washington. She then pursued further studies and field work in Geneva, Switzerland. Helen achieved a long career in genetics research, working in laboratories at Cal Tech, University of California Santa Cruz, and University of Washington. Upon her retirement, she moved to Green Valley, Arizona where she enjoyed line dancing and made many friends. Helen loved the outdoors the desert, the mountains. Among the charities she supported were the Arizona Sonoran Desert Museum and the Green Valley Community Food Bank. Please donate to one of these organizations in lieu of flowers.
