Dan reminded me that it's Mabel's 18th anniversary-a day we should celebrate! She was one of the best. I'm living here now in the land of her birth, the Emerald Isle. My friend was one proud Dubliner. She wedded her Irish foundation of faith and character with the blessings of American opportunity, living the dream with a wonderful husband (Lou) and excellent sons (Bob and Dan).
Those we love don´t go away,
They walk beside us every day,
unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear.

Like my parents, Mabel was born in Ireland. We celebrated in common "all things Irish." Her feisty spirit made her so much fun to be around. She was a bright, articulate, caring lady, strong in her Catholic faith, and engaged with the world right up to the end. She could welcome you with great verve, regale you as a gifted musician, or listen as you shared with her how you were doing. Her eyes twinkled with devilment and a zest for life. To me, her length of days (almost a century) betokened one who had discovered the secret of living. Of course, factoring into this--I have no doubt--was the lifelong devotion of her son, Dan, culminating in later years when he nursed her in their home. Now there was an inspiration! So as I share these fond memories, I have to smile with gratitude for having known Mabel and her adoring husband, Lou, for their warm hospitality going back many moons, and for my enduring friendship with Dan. Schneider's was a wonderful home to visit, spend the night, and in which to just kick back. I was always "Jack" in that house. And to this day, I miss it, and the woman I admired.

The Schneider house was our favorite after school site. The dog would get excited, Pops would get upset, but the Lady just thought we were fun. Kept Danny together - best wishes to all her kids and friends.
