ALICEVILLE | Bobby Lee Gilliam, age 86, of Aliceville, died Jan. 12, 2014, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Memorial Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at Aliceville First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Tom Kay, Rev. Ralph Windle Jr. and his grandson, Rev. Parker Windle officiating. A private burial will be held at Magnolia Memorial Gardens with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be today, Jan. 14, 2014, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Dogwood Chapel in Aliceville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Nathan Gilliam and Jimmy Wood Gilliam (Billie Mae); sisters, Claudine Carroll (L.D.), Jackie Carroll (Cecil), Etta Mae (Frank), Mae Ola (R.A.); and sister-in-law, Katherine Plott (Walter).
Survivors include his wife Joann Shelby Gilliam; daughter Sandra Gilliam Windle (Dennis) of Aliceville, Ala.; brother, J.D. Gilliam (Janis); brother-in-law, Mark Shelby (Linda); sisters-in-law, Ruth McCall (George) and Nina Brooks, and Emma Ruth Gilliam; grandchildren, Parker Windle and Savannah Windle Pate (Jason); great-grandchildren, Libby and Luke Pate; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Gilliam was born November 11, 1927 in Lamar County, Alabama to the late R.R. Gilliam and Maggie Neil Guin Gilliam. Bobby was a U.S. Navy
veteran serving during World War II
. He married Joann Shelby Gilliam on June 30, 1951 and was a retired employee of Pickens County Natural Gas. Bobby was a member of Aliceville First Presbyterian Church and was well known for his daily 8 mile walk around the city of Aliceville with his dog, Red.
Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews.
