Mary Louise Bliss

TUSCALOOSA Mary Louise Bliss, age 51, of Tuscaloosa, died May 19, 2013, at home. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church Chapel with Pastor Kathy Reed officiating. Visitation will follow the memorial service at the church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Col. Laurence Taft Bliss, and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Loveman Friedman and Col. and Mrs. Arthur Wilcox Bliss.

Survivors include her sons, Richard Alexander Bliss and Jeremy Reed Marquis; her mother, Emily F. Bliss; and her sisters, Kathy Law and Emmelyn Harris (Randy).

Mary was an active lover of theatre and the arts and lent her time and efforts to the School of Fine Arts. She was an avid reader and a scribe of the Friedman family history. Mary was an artisan whose creative mind yielded beautiful jewelry and vivid works of art. Through her relentless love of book, she found a way to give back as a reviewer of the works she admired. Her caring nature bestowed much love to her family as well as her feline companions.

Pallbearers will be brother-in-law Randy Harris and nephews Brandon Bliss, Jamie Bliss, and Joshua Law.

Honorary pallbearers are Jean Savage, Lynda Friedman O'Brian, Segail Friedman, Jenny Knott, Katherine Klose, Karen McAbee Boyd, and Lisa McAbee Peckham.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church, the Humane Society of West Alabama, and T-Town Paws.
