TUSCALOOSA | Owen Leslie Postle, age 80, of Tuscaloosa, died March 19, 2014, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2014, at Westervelt-Warner Chapel of the First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Charles Durham officiating and Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. The family will receive visitors in the Westervelt-Warner Chapel beginning at 1:30 p.m.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Preston Lorentz Postle and Ethlyn Scheidt Postle and his sister, Barbara Postle Hart.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Derrick Postle of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; daughters, Sabrina Postle Rowan (David P. Rowan) of Birmingham, Ala. and Wendy Postle Lawrence (K. Everett Lawrence) of Atlanta, Ga.; son, Preston Jeffrey Postle of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; brother, Gregory Postle of Punta Gorda, Fla.; brother-in-law, William Hart of Dothan, Ala.; and seven grandchildren, Matthew, Patrick and Caroline Rowan of Birmingham, Ala., Nicholas and Clayton Postle of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Morgan and Kelsey Lawrence of Atlanta, Ga.
Owen Leslie Postle was born on September 11, 1933, in Ohio. During childhood, the family moved to Tuscaloosa, Ala. He graduated from Marion Military Institute and served his country in the United States Marine Corps
. He attended The University of Alabama, and was a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. He began his career with Uniroyal in Atlanta, Ga. where he met his wife Pat. They had three children, moved to Cullman, Ala. in 1964, and Owen began his 17 year career as General Manager of McGriff Tire, where he created the wholesale division of the business. In 1981, Owen, along with Pat and son Jeff, moved to Tuscaloosa, Ala. and founded Postle's Tire & Automotive. Owen was passionate about the tire industry, and loved building the family business. He had a strong connection with his customers, and enjoyed his association with other local business owners. He was a member of the West AL BNI club, and Woodland Forrest Country Club. Owen was a spiritual man who enjoyed a full life, traveled to many places in the world, and will always be remembered for his generosity, his positive outlook and his undying devotion to family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Postle, Nicholas Postle, Clay Postle, David Rowan, Matthew Rowan, Patrick Rowan and Everett Lawrence.
