REFORM Sorrow comes in great waves, but it rolls over us; when it passes, we remain. On Dec. 19, 2010, God, in His immeasurable compassion, called to her Heavenly Home Rebecca S. Ballard. She departed this life on a Sunday morning while asleep at her home.
Rebecca Skelton was born Nov. 21, 1933, in Reform, Ala. At the age of 17 she married John Robert Ballard and began a life of bright hopes and promising dreams. To this union were born two sons and a daughter. She was blessed with eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
God gave Rebecca the gift of music and she matured into an accomplished pianist. As she grew into young womanhood and into mature life, her Christian charity grew stronger as she devoted this musical talent to Him in churches all across the country.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, at Fellowship Baptist Church with Rev. Adam Homan and Elder Tim McCool officiating. Burial will follow in the Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, John R. Ballard; her parents, Walter and Minnie Pearl Higdon Skelton; sister, Benita Gates; and brothers, Burnette Skelton, Ernest Lavern Skelton, and Bernard Skelton.
We have peaceful thoughts that our dear Heavenly Father may give her the happy privilege of one day welcoming the homecoming of her loved ones left: daughter, Taryn Ballard (Dale Foley) of Reform, Ala.; sons, Terry Ballard (Kris) of South Bend, Ind. and Tom Ballard (Mary) of Reform, Ala.; eight grandchildren, Andrew Auzston, Becky Thomas, Veronica Ballard, Ben Thomas, John Richard Ballard, Hilary Ballard, Meghan Ballard, and Kelsey Ballard; and six great-grandchildren, Nick Otts, Jared Thomas, Brittany Auzston, Aiden Thomas, Beau Auzston, and Jackson Thomas.
Pallbearers will be Ben Thomas, John Richard Ballard, Andrew Auzston, Joe Skelton, Bernard Skelton, and Steven Parker.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Rd, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404, 205-523-0101.
Indeed we have a cheerful vision of her arrival to Paradise and a gathering of the Saints. So, we remain patient and wait 'tis but a little while; in God's safe keeping she will stay.
