NEW ORLEANS, La. Robert Baker Jr., age 90, of New Orleans, La., died Sunday, June 9, 2013.
He was born in Ensley, Alabama to the late Robert Baker and Annie Merrell Baker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael Baker.
Robert is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jane Bearden Baker; his sons, Robert M. Baker and Stephen P. Baker; his granddaughters, Miranda Baker and Seaman Recruit Rachel Baker of Shreveport, La.; his brother, Loyd Baker of Tuscaloosa; his sister-in law, Janice Baker of Tuscaloosa; his niece, Shannon Baker Grant of Tuscaloosa; and his nephew, Loyd M. Baker Jr. of Tuscaloosa.
Robert graduated from the University of Alabama in 1949 as a Civil Engineer. He retired from Texaco as a Senior Civil Engineer in 1983. He was also a retired registered professional engineer in the State of Louisiana. Robert was an Army
veteran of World War ll and retired in 1983 as a Lieutenant Colonel with 32 years of service. Robert was the Inspector General for the 337th Support Brigade, New Orleans, La., from January 1968 to February 1976. He was a member of the Memorial Baptist Church for over 50 years where he severed as Chairman of Board of Trustees.
