TUSCALOOSA | Roy Bailey Bain, age 77, of Tuscaloosa, died December 20, 2013, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, December 23, 2013, at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Tim Lovette and Rev. Ralph Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Carrollton City Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior and immediately following the service.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bobby Bain.
Survivors include his wife, Billie Jean Babb Bain of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; daughters, Laurie Lanham (Michael) of Zephyrhills, Fla., Bonne Czochara (Robert) of Anthen, Ariz., Amy Meisman (Steve) of Zephyrhills, Fla., and Kathy Hewitt (Dennis) of Duncanville, Ala.; sons, Rob Bain of Florida and Tim Bain (Lilian) of Hallandale Beach, Fla.; sister, Ann Dean (Charles) of Birmingham, Ala.; brothers, Bill Bain (Bev) of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., Neil Bain (Flora) of Hollysprings, Miss., Gordon Bain (Patricia) of Raymond, Miss., and Bryan Bain (Barbara) of Dothan, Ala.; seven grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Bain was born March 29, 1936 in Marshall County Alabama to the late Walter B. Bain and Bessie Brooks Bain. He was an Auburn University graduate, a U.S. Army
veteran serving in the Berlin War Crises as an Intelligence Analyst and retired publisher of The St. Petersburg Times. He attended Calvary Baptist Church.
Honorary Pallbearers are Ann Moore, Dr. Scott Fulgham, Carrollton High School Class of 1951, Guyton Sunday School Class of Calvary Baptist Church, and Auburn University Journalism Faculty, employees of The St. Petersburg Times and members of the Links Country Club.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Auburn University Journalism Advisory Council or Calvary Baptist Church.
