Roy Eugene Clark

BOSSIER CITY, La. Roy Eugene Clark, age 87, of Bossier City, La., died June 2, 2013, at Northwest Louisiana Veterans Home in Bossier City, La. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home with U.S. Air Force Chaplain Daniel Kim officiating. Interment will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Francis and Richard T. Clark; and his wives, Jimmie Thackston Clark and Edwina Orr Clark.

Survivors include his stepson, Frank Newell and his wife, Maria, of Fairfax, Va.; his stepsister, Frances Bloomquist and her husband, David, of Bossier City, La.; his half-sister, Lee Clark of Little Rock, Ark.; his stepmother, Iris Clark of Little Rock, Ark.; and his grandchildren, Jamie Marie Newell of Raleigh, N.C. and Meghan Michelle Newell of Ashburn, Va.

Mr. Clark was born April 27, 1926, in Tyler, Texas and graduated from Tyler High School in 1944. He enlisted in the Texas National Guard in 1944 and later served in the Army Air Corps as an aircraft mechanic and gunner. He was honorably discharged in 1945 and returned to Texas to attend Kilgore Junior College. After being accepted into the Air Force Aviation Cadet Program, he earned his pilot's wings and was commissioned in the U.S. Air Force in 1948. His Air Force career spanned 23 years with the Strategic Air Command throughout the 1950s and 1960s flying KB-29s, B-47s, and B-52s. He served in the United States and overseas in the European and Pacific theaters and participated in air operations in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. After retiring from the Air Force in 1969, he relocated to Florida, where he worked for Dictaphone Corporation. In 1992, he moved to Tuscaloosa, Alabama where he was reunited in marriage with his childhood sweetheart, Edwina Orr. Roy later moved to Bossier City, Louisiana in 2011, where he remained in retirement with his stepsister and family until his death in the Northwest Louisiana War Veteran's Home on June 2, 2013.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to St. Jude Children's Home.
