ALICEVILLE William Ernest "Bubber" Alexander, Jr., age 79, of Aliceville, died July 7, 2011, at Noland Hospital. Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 2011, at Aliceville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Roger Short and Rev. David Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Magnolia Memorial Gardens with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at Dogwood Chapel, 200 5th Street NE in Aliceville. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to services at the church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister and brother-in-law, Louise Alexander Watt and Rogers Watt; his sister-in-law, Martha Ann Johnson; his brothers-in-law, Emmet Neel and Gene Neel; and several uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Myrtle Ruth Neel Alexander of Aliceville, Ala.; his daughter, Annell Alexander Walker and husband, David of Aliceville, Ala.; his son, Tim Alexander and wife, Terrie Powell Alexander of Guin, Ala.; his sisters, Virginia "Sissy" Alexander and Emmie Alexander Mays (Ray "Buddy"), both of Aliceville, Ala.; four grandchildren, Laura Walker Hamlin (Matt), Bryan Walker, Neel Alexander, and Jan Alexander; his great-grandson, Ethan Hamlin; honorary grandchildren, Neel Johnson (Lee Ann), Lacey Johnson Dean (Dennis), and Amanda Johnson Thomas (Jerrold), and their children, Sarah, Mary, and Elizabeth Thomas and Jacob and Joshua Dean; four nieces, Epsie Watt Drewry (David), Ginger Watt Spiller, Polly Anne Mays Fountain (Terry), and Gayle Mays; nephews, Louis Rogers Watt (Lynda), Ernie Watt (Janet), and Ken Mays (Paula); sisters-in-law, Juanita Neel and Bettie Neel; brother-in-law, Neely V. "Bubber" Johnson; eight great-nieces, seven great-nephews, several great-great-nieces and nephews; and special cousin, Billy Glenn Alexander (Ruth).
Mr. Alexander was born July 26, 1931, in Coatopa, Alabama to the late William Ernest Alexander, Sr. and Emmie "Polly" McCarty Alexander. He was a member of Aliceville First United Methodist Church and a retired shift supervisor at Huyck Felt Company. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He loved family and was always fully supportive of his family and friends. He loved humor and had a keen sense of humor. He loved vegetable gardening and flower gardening, sports, and fellowship with close friends and family.
Pallbearers will be Neel Alexander, Bryan Walker, Matt Hamlin, Louis Rogers Watt, Ernie Watt, Ken Mays, David Drewry, and Neel Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers are Charlie Holliman, Bill Spain, Jimmie and Marilyn McBride, Billy Booth, Richard Brownlee, Hook Gibson, Joe Lee, Sammie Wilder, Bobby Hughes, coworkers at Huyck Felt Co., Yoko Gibson, staff of the Prescription Shop, and Pickens County Home Health.
A special thanks goes to the nurses and staff at the DCH second floor oncology unit and the fourth floor long-term care unit, especially nurses Debbie Jackson and Steven Fondren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Aliceville First United Methodist Church, St. Jude's Hospital, or a charity of one's choice.
