TUSCALOOSA | Donald Eugene "Buddy" Rice, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2014, at the age 66. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel with Pastor Billy Joy of Valley View Baptist Church officiating. Ronnie Dockery will deliver the eulogy. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with American Legion graveside rites. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements are being handled by Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.
Buddy was a lifelong resident of Tuscaloosa where he was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. He proudly served our country in the Army during Vietnam and was awarded a Purple Heart and four Bronze Stars with valor. He worked for McAbee Construction for over 30 years and then a short time for Ed Moore before retiring.
Buddy was preceded in death by his father, Charles E. Rice, Jr. and sister, Rachel Hunter.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Mary "Jackie" Rice; his mother, Mabel Rice; sister, Susan Moore; brother, Floyd Rice; daughter, Dana Ecker (Billy); and son, Brian Rice (Tracy). Buddy also had four grandchildren that were the love and joy of his life, Nicholas and Ansley Ecker and Emily and Alyssa Rice.
Pallbearers will be Nicholas Ecker, Aubrey Wilson, Doug Nelson, Al Strickland, David Miller, David Ballard and Frank Gaddy.
Honorary pallbearers are the members of Local 372 Plumber and Pipefitters Union, members of the Northport Hunting Club, McAbee Construction, Ed Moore, Inc., DCH CSICU Nurses and Hospice of West Alabama.
