GORDO | R.D. "Reedus" Fountain, age 90, passed away August 26, 2014, at his home. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, August 29, 2014, at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Hershel Owen officiating. Burial will follow in Gordo City Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Willowdean "Dean'' Fountain and his parents and brother, Coleman Fountain.
Survivors include his sons, Richard Fountain (Susie) of Fredericksburg, Va. and Terry Fountain of Gordo, Ala.; his daughter-in-law, Judy Sanders Moore; sister, Betty Peacock (Guy); five grandchildren, Rick Fountain (Alyssa) Angie Fountain Jones (Steve), Chandra Whitten, Baylee Fountain and Emma Fountain; six great-grandchildren, Haley Jones, Hannah Jones, Heath Jones, Katie Fountain, Kellen Fountain and Kara Fountain; and one great-great-grandchild, Paisley Jones.
Mr. Fountain was born July 10, 1924 in Gordo, Alabama to the late Clem and Bessie Fountain. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving honorably in the European Theater and participating in the Battle of the Bulge. An avid fisherman, he loved nothing better than spending time on the water with a friend or family member. As to his faith, he loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, serving as a deacon and Sunday school teacher at Emmanuel Baptist Church, leading his family by example, being faithful to the end.
Pallbearers will be Sammy Bailey, Sammy Sanders, Jason Mullenix, Keith Sullivan, Ricky Reece and Tim Browning.
A special thanks to the Hospice nurses, as well as special caregivers, Jolene and Josephine Guyton.
