FLEETWOOD - Alvaro "Al" Sandoval, age 83, passed away August 23, 2018, at his home. A native of Villavicencio, Meta, Colombia, South America, he was brought to the United States along with his sister and a brother in 1951 at the age of 16 by his aunt, Julia Ramirez Londono, due to the death of his mother.
He proudly served our country in the United States Air Force for 22 years. He received The Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service in 1969. He was owner and operator of Cabinets by Sandoval.
He was a devoted husband to his wife and family. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at Ol' Colony Golf course. He loved the game of golf.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Catalina Sandoval Londono; his father, Victor Manuel Sandoval; a sister, Fanny Cecilia Sandoval Londono; and two brothers, Jaime Ernesto Sandoval Londono and Jorge Abelardo Sandoval Londono.
Survivors include his wife, Jewell Snider Sandoval; the mother of his children, Joyce Picotte Layton; two daughters, Teresa Sandoval Hussman (Glen) and Cecilia Sandoval Glynn (Jeff); step-sons Joseph Morris (Pam) and Mark Morris (Jean); grandsons, Lucas Naeyaert and A. J. Alexander; great-granddaughter, Sarah Marie Naeyaert; nieces, Fanny Janette Sandoval Romero, Patricia Catalina Sandoval Hernandez and Yolanda Marina Sandoval Derakshan; nephews, Jorge Ernesto Sandoval Romero, Cesar Augusto Sandoval Romero, Andrew K. Sandoval Strausz (Cathleen D. Cahill); and their twins, Cecilia and Lincoln.
He reunited with his unknown half-sisters and half-brothers and their extended families in Colombia in 2006.
Special appreciation to Dr. William Hill, Dr. Jennifer Clem, friends at Ol' Colony golf, former employees of Cabinets by Sandoval, Barbara Clark, Karen Hunnicutt Bourg, Teresa Wells, Willadean Hubbard Cooley, neighbors in Fleetwood; friends from SLIS, University of Alabama, friends bringing food and flowers, and friends who have visited or called our home during this difficult time.
As requested by Alvaro, no services will be held.
